We need EVERY American voice to save Net Neutrality

We have until December 14th
to save net neutrality
Unless, of course, you LIKE paywalls, fast and slow lanes,
internet service provider monopolies & potential for censorship,
and increased internet fees

© Madelyn Griffith-Haynie, CTP, CMC, ACT, MCC, SCAC
from the What Kind of World do YOU Want? Series

You have a voice ONLY if you use it

We have just DAYS to stop censorship, bandwidth throttling and extra fees online.

The FCC is about to vote on its plan to kill net neutralityonly Congress can still stop this travesty.  They need to hear from internet users like you — RIGHT NOW.

CONTACT U.S. Senate: Senators of the 115th Congress.

DO YOU TWEET?

Where do your members of Congress stand? Find out, and tweet them!

To win, we need to bring more members of Congress onto “Team Internet”— especially Republicans.

Republican members of Congress face massive pressure from party leadership to oppose Net Neutrality, partly because of lobbying by Team Cable, and partly because they see it as “Obama era” policy.

  • Net Neutrality predates Obama
  • It has always been a design principle of the Internet.
  • It does NOT need to be a partisan issue.

Some Republicans are open to the need for rules — but they won’t break ranks from party leaders unless they hear from constituents.

Tweets are surprisingly effective.

Time is short to stop both the tax cuts for the rich and the end of net neutrality.  USE your voice or LOSE your voice!

This push to end net neutrality along with with Republicans’ tax cut proposals are designed to appease the party’s wealthy donor base, only a portion of their war on the middle class and the poor.

Find YOUR Representatives below:

For ANYONE who is NOT on board with broadband companies such as AT&T, Verizon and Comcast (and the FCC’s Republican chairman, Ajit Pai, who has made undoing the government’s net neutrality rules one of his TOP priorities)  —  it is time to man the phones, fax, tweet, and email our US Congress legislators.

Demand that lawmakers NOT pass their tax cuts bill for the rich and that net neutrality is NOT ended on December 14, 2017 as is currently planned.

TO FAX: Resistbot will do it all for you. Text “RESIST” to 50409 or message Resistbot on Facebook and it will walk you through the steps to fax your Senator and will tell you when your fax has been delivered.

Such an important post M. I’ve been posting about this on Facebook for weeks now trying to wake up Americans. I’ve even signed petitions, Good God! 😦 ❤ xxx

    • Right now I am ashamed to be an American, Deb — and it looks like the American public has decided to roll over and play dead. The verdict is still out on whether I’ll keep up the good fight myself or not.

I’ve never been particularly hopeful when under the weather, so I am making no decisions until my health returns full force.

        • Thanks for your concern, Deb, but I don’t actually watch the news (no TV) — and tend to avoid the sound-bite “if it bleeds it leads” print media, for the most part. Still, I’m finding it more and more difficult to pay no attention to the men behind the curtain of what’s been happening in the US since November (dismay-free, anyway) and continue to consider myself a thinking human being.

There are a few issues I follow online through content curated by trusted bloggers who are not Corporate sell-outs and who do their research and provide references. My current slide into depression is likely due to a confluence of personal issues negatively impacting my health combined with the latest GOP crappola. Once I feel better physically, perhaps finally sending up the white flag won’t seem so attractive.

HOWEVER, the idea that our access to what’s going on in the world (and esp. in the White House) and our ability to research and/or discuss unless we have disposable income we can afford to dedicate to that endeavor seems to me STEP ONE toward overt Fascism and a clear decimation of some of the tenants of Free Speech.

I’m simply not able to join the Nero contingent – fiddling while Rome burns. If I can’t do it at Christmas time, I’m truly worried about my ability to paste on a smile going forward, and may not be able to continue to do what I do online and remain positive. We’ll see. Meanwhile there’s glog. 🙂

    • God Bless You, Michael. NOW, if everyone in America would contact their representatives and remind them that they ARE supposedly our representatives (so if they want to keep their seats that dang well better stop this!) we just might be able to get this done (AGAIN!)

I think we can send a pretty powerful message to Congress that they ALL need to put their Big Kid panties on and stop fighting with each other on the playground for King of the Hill.

  5. Like Clive, I’m on the outside looking in (Canada), and do not have one shred of faith that anything the American people try in their attempt to stop their government from its destruction, will succeed. This is a particularly dangerous issue. I can only watch and wait.

    • We do seem to be rushing headlong into Fascism, don’t we? As I’ve said before, if I could afford to expatriate, I’d probably have left the day after the election last November. As I’ve also said before, GOD HELP US ALL!

  7. I LOVE John Oliver! What a great way to get the word out on an issue that has been buried beneath the overwhelming political and economic issues of the minute.

I DON’T love the stranglehold Comcast and Verizon have claimed (already) over our connection to one another.

    • Thanks, Gabe. I howled at Oliver’s take on this issue – and I’m hoping that even non-Americans will click to watch.

After ALL, they’ll be next if the bizidiots get away with it in America.

Your system is so badly broken that it is hard to see how it can be fixed. Numpty promised to drain the swamp but all he’s done is widen and deepen it, and make the waters even murkier. We have rules which are intended to prevent people from benefitting commercially from their links to government. They don’t always work, but something like that would help you. But who among the self-interested would willingly cut off their income stream? I can’t see it improving any time soon, sadly xx

    • We have rules too (laws, even) – and our politicians run roughshod over them – and WE not only fail to call them on it, we continue to vote for them (and BUY the products that graft put on the shelves).

As for Numpty – we ALL wanted the swamps drained, but WAAAAAY too many folks did not fact check with an eye toward what he was likely to build instead – and by what methods. And NOW look what we are stuck with.

It is time for ALL of us to Just. Say. NO. To THEM.

        • The pols count on our apathy – and the fact that we will be lazy: that we won’t vote and we won’t follow through on the consequences we’ve sworn will happen in great enough numbers to threaten their power bases.

All it will take will be ONE massive, up-yours, ‘TAKE THIS BOZO!” follow through, and everything will change. WE just need to get off our butts and take action.

To a non-American, the amount of influence exercised in your country by big businesses is incredible. Yes, it happens here too, but it isn’t quite so blatant. John Oliver makes the point very well, and it’s good to see a Brit telling you what to do! 😉 xx

    Liked by 2 people

    • I laughed about that too, Clive – but I can only sob or scream at how influenced we are by big business. I don’t know HOW big business got such a strong foothold in America politics.

WAIT – yes I do, actually – government graft, cronyism and revolving door regulatory agency heads coming from big biz lobbiest communities and/or heads of big biz companies (i.e., Monsanto and FDA collusion during the GMO legislation push thru sans adequate testing, so that our food supply is now corrupted by pesticides IN the gene code!).

What I don’t understand is why we-the-people don’t ring out loudly to STOP nonsense like this and get rid of legislators who don’t represent OUR wishes.
Sad to me that folks will complain AFTERWARDS but won’t check things out and think about cause and effect BEFORE it’s too late.

      I. Just. Don’t. Get. It. I hope folks will step up to stop THIS issue — before it’s too late.

Those of us not in the US are completely bamboozled by the amount of influence corporations (and the NRA!) have on government. US prides itself on being a democracy and yet most of the people influencing policy and in administrative positions are there because they’ve been appointed rather than elected, and so many of those elected are in their jobs because of financial support and campaigning by said corporations. Where are the representatives of the people?

    Liked by 2 people

    • We will HAVE no “representatives of the people” until we *insist* on it – and vote the idiots out of office who pander to big business at the expense of the country as a whole – while we still can. PERIOD.
